It’s usually best to do this when you’re not planning on swimming in the pool for 24 to 48 hours. Read the packaging on the pool shock and make sure that you’re not adding too much work too little. Keep your pool running to properly circulate the shock. 

When A Pool Needs To Be Shocked

It’s usually best to shock a pool after the sun goes down or after there’s been an incident of extreme debris that’s fallen into your pool. You should also clean your pool thoroughly with a vacuum or scrub brush before you shock it. 

It’s recommended to shock a pool at least once a week. Using at least 2 pounds of shock for every 10,000 gallons of water in your pool is considered to be the ideal ratio. If you have more people over or you’re using your pool frequently you should consider shocking your pool more often.
